norway
says, hello new york

Totem design is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by the group NORWAY
SAYS.
The exhibition will be a retrospective of work by Norway Says from the last several
years featuring work that includes prototypes as well as production pieces. Norway
Says have been instrumental in putting Norway on the map as one of the Scandinavian
countries that counts as one of their resources the export of good design. From
their first showing in the Salone Satellite in Milan in 2000, the Norway Says
group has received tremendous attention for their innovative approach to design
utilising materials and techniques inherent to Scandinavian design but with a
definite Norwegian attitude and an approach that looks to the future. Norway
Says were featured in a profile in Totem’s own magazine last year and have
appeared in a documentary about design, both produced by Totem Media. The exhibition
will be the continuation of a show originating at Union Station In Washington
DC in November 2002.

Norwegian Design
Norway has long lagged behind its Nordic neighbours in furniture design. Its national
furniture manufacturers and retailers have for the last 20-30 years shown little
interest and will to engage with young and untried talent with fresh ideas. The
consequence is that Norway is a country with little design reputation abroad.
