Totem Design group launched a refreshingly vibrant line of mouse
pads by New York based industrial designer Karim Rashid at the
Accent on Design division of the international gift show. In keeping
with
its tradition of providing the public with well designed, accessible
products, Totem is pleased to present new computer accessories.
The graphic and iconic mousepads stand out in the typically putty-grey
environment of the computer workstation. The pads, which capture
Rashid's " sensually minimalistic" design sensibility,
are revolutionizing the way we think about computer accessories.
" I believe objects would be raptures of experience, things
that bring enjoyment, simplify tasks, and increase our levels of
engagement and beauty, " says Rashid. The product line ranges
in price from $12 for one eight different designs to $25 for a
limited edition pad that will be signed by Karim and is limited
to 100 pieces.
" With the next millennium looming on the horizon, Totem is
excited about introducing products that address the new technology,
manufacturing processes and materials available in the market place.
At the same time, we strive to satisfy the niche that exists for
affordable, everyday objects," according to David Shearer,
Creative Director of Totem.
Totem's new line represents the strong ongoing relationship between
Rashid and Totem. Rashid, who has designed for Issey Miyake, Fasem,Guzzini,
Zeritalia, Umbra, Nambe among many others, has also won numerous
distinctions; including the "I.D. Forty," and the "Good
Design Award".
Since opening its flagship store in October 1997, Totem has been
the recipient of many awards, including "Best New Product" at
the New York International Gift Fair's Accent on Design in February,
1998 " Best Furniture Design" at the ICFF in May, 1998
and New York magazine's "Best Contemporary Furniture" award
for 1998.
