Utilizing
the processes of minimalism and the abstraction of nature are
key concepts for the creation of Elizabeth Paige Smith's furniture
designs resulting in warm minimal forms. Drawing from aspects
of American popular culture, the designs combine solid workmanship
with multifunctional ideals. She draws from the material and
manufacturing process of surfboard production (Elizabeth surfs
every week) in her latest collection that includes the "Nude
Lounge". The furniture collection incorporates an adaptable sensibility--appropriate
for residential and contract environments--distinguished by details
embodied in clean forms. Smith uses her past experience to formulate
her approach to design and detail in interiors and furniture.
Her upbringing in the Caribbean combined with her travels abroad
defines her attraction to color, texture, and materials. Through
the cohesive use of materials, and the refined and controlled
composition of the designs, Smith creates a new definition of
how we occupy space. A striking movement that begins to bridge
the gap between American and European style.
