Michael Solis suggests that he is "way too laid back," referring to his career trajectory as a case of "right place right time," amid the folourishing group of young designers - "the third wave." Looks like his science fiction-inspired vision, influenced by Star Wars and The Matrix, has found its moment. The near-future resonates in Solis' spare, geometric designs. Solis also goes back to the future passed, finding inspiration in mid-century designs - take the Eames compact sofa. "Everybody looks sexy on that sofa," Solis Muses, "which is really key."

Trained at Parsons, Solis founded Worx six years ago. He recently collaborated twith Nick Dine on New York's trendy Kirma Zabete boutique and designed R 2oth Century, an outpost of contemporary classic furniture in tribeca. Despite his predilection for sci-fi, Solis never overlooks the inspiration of the everyday. he sees "a fly on the wall, a crack in the sidewalk as notable dictates in the genesis of his Worx.
