The whole of Once is fostered by a rigorous trans-altantic dialogue; fabrics and textiles, fashion and photography, biological hypothesis-nothing is barred from conversation. Dutch colleagues Marre Moerel and Harry Paul van Iersel met up with Camilla Vega, raised in mexico and of Chilean descent, to draw on each other's artistic experiences and to collaborate in the name of design research.

Moerel, a graduate of Royal College of Artand former furniture design teacher at Parsons School of Design, crosses disciplinary boundaries to produce chic sculptural objects. Her partners in Milan create trend books for the fashion industry and design for companies like Alessi. A vital intersection can also be found in the integration of disparate materials. Moerel likens this to Prada, who in recent collections has fused fine materials with "nasty" ones in the name of a new brand of luxe. Once finishes are smooth and shapes are clean. But minimal fashion is just one of many influences. There's also a big biological theme in their oeuvre - DNA, amorphous organisms, and a comprehensive fascination with the way things fit together.
