Hailing from Brittany, France, Pierre Bouguennec landed in New York in 1987. With an auto-didactic background in architecture and cabinet making, he founded Boum Design in 1989. Combining age-old savoir faire with new technology, Boum has been hard at work on a series of modular spaces crafted from plexiglass and inflatable PVC. Forms and functions morph through the smooth moves of the compartamentalized designs.

"Metamorphosis, as it pertains to a single cell, permits anyone to create new forms beyond the eight pieces in the collection,"explains Bouguennec. The interactive objects are rendered in a streamlined aesthetic, with the flirtatious charm of a french import in the Big Apple. Bouguennec also has residential projects underway in Miami and Long Island. And the name Boum? A nickname from his teenage years, when he caught air as a pro windsurfer.
